MECOMS & Smart Home @ Metering Europe 2008 Conference |
|
We all are aware that substantial changes to our energy consumption behaviour are needed to ensure that the next generations are living in a world with the necessary resources to maintain and increase our level of safety, health and wealth.
A lot of European and Global initiatives like 2020 are started and other, even more ambitious, will follow in the coming years. The industry and governments invests a lot of effort and money in green initiatives, but involvement of all citizens will be necessary to reach the goals and to have full ROI of the investments of the industry and governments.
Ferranti believes that if the level of complexity to have insight and impact on your own consumption is not drastically lowered to allow nearly everybody to take part in these worldwide energy saving programs, this will not have the desired effect. As long as complex devices and computers are required, the consumers are not encouraged to take part in these programs. For these ambitious initiatives, continuous effort of everybody will be required.
To accomplish that everybody takes part in these programs, it will be required to have the threshold for the involved users to be as low as watching television and to offer direct incentives which are easy to earn. Nearly everybody knows how to operate a TV and uses its television every day. For that reason, Ferranti developed within Mecoms/AX © the next generation applications and user interfaces making fully use of this and other technologies and media. This together with the Smart Grid developments will create the Smart Home which empowers all of us to contribute to the world of tomorrow.
To have a sneak preview of this visionary applications, please visit the Ferranti booth (H11) at the Metering, Billing/CRM Europe 2008 Conference. On the booth you find aside the current Mecoms product suite the Smart Home of the future.

Service Oriented Architecture - What's all the fuzz about? |
|
Service-oriented architecture (SOA) is a methodology for systems development and integration where functionality is grouped around business processes and packaged as interoperable services. SOA also describes IT infrastructure which allows different applications to exchange data with one another as they participate in business processes. The aim is a loose coupling of services with operating systems, programming languages and other technologies which underlie applications.
Since the energy & utility sector is complex and usually the IT landscape is very diverse, MECOMS has invested heavily on a blueprint model which consists of three parts; A utility organization model, a business process model and a KPI model matching the process and organization model. This view is further extended in the SOA concept, MECOMS exposes key business process logic in a secure manner using windows communication framework. These elements can be further modeled in a workflow orchestration using Microsoft Biztalk Server. The goal is to reduce complexity of the system, improve reuse of code and implement and build your system from a clear business process and organizational view.
Dirk Michiels, Director Operations of Ferranti Computer Systems, will be speaking on the Systems Integration for European Energy Utilities. He will elaborate on SOA, how to achieve efficient Corporate Performance Management and how MECOMS can reduce your time to market. Read more about it on the MECOMS website.

MECOMS has met Microsoft's Highest Standard for Partner-Developed Software Solutions
Antwerp — July 7, 2008 — Ferranti Computer Systems announced today that MECOMS, the reference ERP-CRM solution to empower Energy, Water & Utility Companies, is now Certified for Microsoft Dynamics, which signifies that the solution has met Microsoft Corp.’s highest standard for partner-developed software. By successfully meeting all certification requirements, MECOMS can now carry the distinct Certified for Microsoft Dynamics logo.
Solutions that are Certified for Microsoft Dynamics have demonstrated development quality and compatibility with the Microsoft Dynamics product on which it runs by passing rigorous VeriTest software solution testing for Microsoft Dynamics and are profiled in the Microsoft Partner Solution Profiler tool. In addition, the Microsoft Dynamics partner must have customers who are successfully using the certified solution and are willing to recommend it, be enrolled in a Partner Service Plan with Microsoft, and be a Gold Certified Partner in the Microsoft Partner Program.
For customers, Certified for Microsoft Dynamics helps identify Microsoft Dynamics solutions that have been tested for compatibility, meet high quality standards, and are successfully used by existing customers. This certification represents a significant step in elevating the standard for partner-developed software solutions for industry-specific business applications. By highlighting these solutions, Microsoft also creates new opportunities for partners to expand their reseller channel and to better promote their packaged Microsoft Dynamics solution for customers.
“By requiring both the software solution and the partner to meet our highest standards, Microsoft is assuring customers that these certified solutions work with their investments in Microsoft Dynamics,” said Doug Kennedy, vice president, Microsoft Dynamics Partners. “Microsoft congratulates Ferranti Computer Systems on achieving the Certified for Microsoft Dynamics status for MECOMS by demonstrating its success and commitment in delivering a leading Microsoft Dynamics solution.”
