"MECOMS™ has become established in the shortlists of leading industry analysts."
|
In December 2009, Gartner released a new report, " MarketScope for Meter Data Management Products" which assesses MDM vendors. As with Gartner’s previous Magic Quadrant report, Ferranti and its MECOMS™ product are included as one of the major players in this report.
Industry analyst IDC also released a report in the fall of 2009. The " Vendor Assessment: Customer Care and Billing Industry Short List". Again, Ferranti’s MECOMS™ solution was included in this short list of major vendors.
As the reports are not freely available, please contact us to receive more information about these assessments.

"These roles offer an excellent way to present the product benefits throughout an organization."
|
The past year, MECOMS™ has grown phenomenally, both in terms of functionality and international presence. To keep up with this increased maturity, the entire MECOMS™ branding has been drastically overhauled.
The old tagline has been dropped in favour of " Empowering Smart Utilities", which summarizes the increased scope of MECOMS™.
A new visual style builds upon the existing logo and colour palette, but introduces a unique visual identity. Streams of numbers, representing the ubiquity of underlying data, flow throughout all MECOMS™ publications. A series of brochures, case studies and whitepapers is being released, to clearly position MECOMS™ as a state-of-the art solution for utility companies.
Furthermore, the MECOMS™ rebranding introduces a set of 20 fictive persons, representing common roles within utility companies. These roles are used throughout marketing collateral, user manuals and demonstrations to illustrate the MECOMS™ offering for each role. The upcoming release of MECOMS™ 6.1 will feature dashboard screens, tailored to the specifics of each role.

"In order to be smart, utilities will also need smart enterprise applications."
|
In October 2009, Microsoft published the Smart Energy Reference Architecture (SERA), for the IT landscapes of utility companies. The architecture serves to guide utilities in shaping their roadmap for evolving to the smart economy. It discusses various challenges and suggests how these challenges can be met using components developed by Microsoft and its partners.
A key component of this architecture is the Enterprise Software block, one of the most significant system components of intelligently managed utilities. In order to be smart, utilities will also need smart enterprise applications. These applications should be capable of meeting the challenges of ever rising complexity, scalability, performance, security, flexibility, just to name a few. Microsoft Dynamics AX and MECOMS™ are capable of addressing major gaps and pains in the industry. They fit nicely into the SERA standard drawn by Microsoft.

Major infrastructure provider Sterlite Technologies Ltd. has officially partnered with Ferranti, and more strategic partnerships are on the way.
Meanwhile, Ferranti ensures a strong presence of its MECOMS™ product at industry events around the globe. MECOMS™ was showcased at Metering Europe in Barcelona, Metering India in Delhi, Smart Metering UK in London and E-World in Essen.

"MECOMS™ Set Top Box offers an unprecedented tool to steer and optimize consumptions."
|
The MECOMS™ Set Top Box is a digital TV Customer Interaction Channel. It allows customers to use their TV remote to consult their consumption profiles and invoices on-screen.
MECOMS™ Set Top Box offers a rich user-interface and connects to the MECOMS™ back-end using a two-way messaging system. It can be used simultaneously for electricity, gas, water or any other commodity.
The MECOMS™ Set Top Box offers meaningful insights about energy consumption and ecological footprint. For example, the device can present consumption as tons of CO2 or calculate the ROI of replacing an aging household appliance with a more efficient model. Billing also becomes more transparent, with charts comparing payment advances with actual consumptions.
When combined with smart meters, the available data becomes nearly real-time. Energy consumption and local production can then be analysed in highly detailed charts.
Submetering allows scheduling and monitoring of individual appliances. This allows users to run washing machines or charge electric cars during off-peak periods.
This new technology introduces radically new opportunities for utility companies. On one hand, it will attract additional customers and offer an incredible amount of detail about their consumption patterns. On the other hand, the MECOMS™ Set Top Box is an unprecedented tool to steer and optimize consumptions. It is an advantage to the customer, the utility provider and the environment.
