Tom, CIO

Tom is CIO at OmegaPoint, a large utility. As CIO, he is responsible for all the application software and the hardware infrastructure these applications run on. Recently OmegaPoint replaced a number of older systems with MECOMS™ to run their business.

Simplified Technology Stack

Until recently Harpreet was faced with a variety of systems and technologies to run OmegaPoint’s business. This proved to be very costly and made upgrades nearly impossible as upgrading one of the applications caused a ripple effect on all of the other applications.

Since MECOMS™ replaced 12 previous systems, including three different billing systems, the IT department is dealing with a much simpler infrastructure.  Maintaining MECOMS™ as a single application has made life much easier and upgrades are no longer a nightmare.

Business and IT Alignment

The stack of applications Harpreet was dealing with in the past often proved inflexible, often incapable of delivering what the business needed. Upgrades were nearly impossible to handle, users had to deal with several different user interfaces and customer service representatives often did not know where to find the right information when customers called.

The new MECOMS™ system, which is built on Microsoft Dynamics AX™ was easy to implement and immediately embraced by the user community because of its ease of use, having many similarities to Microsoft Office and Outlook.

As the utility industry is constantly evolving and new requirements are often imposed by the energy regulator, changing business rules in the system was often very expensive and time consuming with the old systems. With the flexibility of MECOMS™ and its built-in workflow system and rules engines this has become simple which allow Harpreet to give the business what they want, when they want it.

Data accuracy

One of the single biggest advantages of MECOMS™ for Harpreet proved to be the fact that all of the business functions and data for front office, back office, and even field workers is based on one single version of the truth and is no longer dispersed over multiple systems, often even duplicated in multiple systems.

This has basically eliminated the most common errors utilities are typically faced with because they tend to work with redundant or outdated data.
